Isle of Skye Weekend Workshop PED
We'll be basing ourselves on the Isle of Skye for 3 nights, exploring different parts of the island each day.

Itinerary:
Friday - Whole day on Skye
Saturday - Whole day on Skye
Sunday - Whole day on Skye

On Sunday evening we'll make our way to Fort William, where as a small bonus we'll spend Monday photographing in and around the Glen Coe area.

The Weekend.
Throughout the weekend we'll be doing long exposures, sunsets, and also astro (night sky) photography. The dates have been planned to coincide with a new moon, meaning the skies will be perfect for photographing the sky at night.

Some of the activities will of course be dependant on weather / clouds.

Places are limited to 10 people.

I have itineraries in mind for all 3 days, however the exact day-by-day plan will be decided nearer the time (perhaps even over the weekend) so we can plan properly according to the weather conditions.

Direct flights from Southampton to Glasgow make it quite an easy location to get to.

To get the most out of the weekend you will need a (sturdy) tripod, a 10-stopper ND filter and a graduated ND filter or two.

This PED follows on from the Highlands PED, a week long road trip which will take us from Inverness, to the Isle of Skye.   For more information, visit the Highlands PED page.

Event dates:
Thurs 21st to Sun 24th September

Price:
£175 for the weekend, or if you'd like to do the whole Scotland PED the price will be £350.

Booking:

What will be covered

  • Using a "10-stopper" ND filter
  • Manual mode - using Shutter, Aperture, and ISO
  • White balance - the effect it can make on your photographs
  • Manual Focus - Sometimes for a tricky subject, it's best to manually focus the lens
  • Composition - Some basic tips to help achieve a well balanced photograph
  • Post Processing - Using some of the images taken on the trip, I'll be demonstrating my post processing technique

In addition if you have any specific questions, I'll be there to help throughout.

Recommended equipment (but not necessarily essential)

  • Digital camera (ideally SLR or mirrorless)
  • A 10-stopper neutral density filter
  • Graduated ND filter - 0.9 or 1.2
  • A wide (ish) angle lens that you can attach the ND filter to
  • A long telephoto lens to compress distance in landscapes, and for wildlife
  • Extra camera batteries as some cameras tend to eat batteries while doing long exposures.
  • Spare memory card
  • Appropriate clothing
  • A tripod is essential for this PED
  • A remote cable trigger will make things easier

Photo Experience Day Review
“From a beginner I have now attended a couple of experience days and social evenings...  All have been fun as well as educational. The social days are a great way to meet like minded people, share experiences while getting more practice with the camera and I hope to do more soon.”
