Highlands of Scotland PED
Some 25 years ago a friend and myself did this most amazing road trip to the northern coast of Scotland.  I remember the dates vividly because Frankie Howerd & Benny Hill both died while we were there, but what I remember most was the amazing landscapes and places we visited along the way.  While I've made it back to the Isle of Skye, and indeed a flying visit to John O'Groats, I've always been meaning to go back and follow my footsteps and spend some time photographing this most amazing country.   Now it seems that time has come.

This will be a road trip, moving on each day.

Day 0 - Thursday 14th Sept / Overnight: Inverness
Day 1 - Friday 15th Sept - Inverness to Bowermadden - 133 miles
Day 2 - Saturday 16th Sept - Bowermadden to Tongue- 54 miles
Day 3 - Sunday 17th Sept - Tongue to Lochinver - 83 miles
Day 4 - Monday 18th Sept - Lochinver to Gairloch - 92 miles
Day 5 - Tuesday 19th Sept - Gairloch to Applecross- 61 miles
Day 6 - Wednesday 20th Sept - Applecross to Kyle of Lochalsh- 40 miles
Day 7 - Thursday 21st Sept - Kyle of Lochalsh to Kilmuir - 55 miles

We'll be overnighting at our destinations each evening.

After day 7 the PED transforms into the Isle of Skye PED and we'll spend 3 days photographing Skye.

Other than the route plan above, there will be no fixed agenda for the trip.  We'll stop when we want, for as long as we want depending on weather / lighting etc.

Throughout the week we'll be doing long exposures, sunsets, and astro (night sky) photography.

Event dates:
Thursday 14th to Thursday 21st Sept

£225 for the road trip, or £350 if you'd like to do the Isle of Skye PED in addition.

In addition if you have any specific questions, I'll be there to help throughout.

Recommended equipment (but not necessarily essential)

  • Digital camera (ideally SLR or mirrorless)
  • A 10-stopper neutral density filter
  • Graduated ND filter - 0.9 or 1.2
  • A wide (ish) angle lens that you can attach the ND filter to
  • A long telephoto lens to compress distance in landscapes, and for wildlife
  • Extra camera batteries as some cameras tend to eat batteries while doing long exposures.
  • Spare memory card

  • A tripod is essential for this PED
  • A remote cable trigger will make things easier

Photo Experience Day Review
“From a beginner I have now attended a couple of experience days and social evenings...  All have been fun as well as educational. The social days are a great way to meet like minded people, share experiences while getting more practice with the camera and I hope to do more soon.”
